Scott Speedman in Montreal for two projects
25 Feb 2010
Torontonian Scott Speedman has returned to Canada. The young actor, best known for his work on the American television series from the late 90s "Felicity", and recently seen along side Liv Tyler in The Strangers (2008) is currently in Montreal working on two projects, for two great Canadian directors.
First off, he is working on a big screen adaptation of Rachel Klein's debut novel, "The Moth Diaries", a gothic story of vampiric lesbianism set in a all-girls boarding school, for Mary Harron, the director of 2000's American Psycho. This project is being kept very quiet, so specific locations cannot be known for certain, or if the entire film is being shot here in our streets. Co-starring with Speedman, is model-turned actress Lily Cole, following her brilliant turn in Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (2008) as Valentina, the doctor's daughter.
Speedman is also working on a serial-killer thriller by young Canadian director Jacob Tierney, called Notre Dame de Grace. As you may have guessed, the film takes place and is currently filming in the borough of NDG in Montreal. The film is based on Chrystine Brouillet's 1996 novel "Chère Voisine", about a serial killer on the prowl in NDG during the 1995 referendum. Tierney is the great director behind modernized Charles Dickens tale, Twist (2003) and last year shot the high school comedy The Trotsky here in Montreal, with local superstar Jay Baruchel, about a student who thinks he is Leon Trotsky. The Trotsky hasn't even been released yet, and Tierney is already hard at work on Notre Dame de Grace, which also stars Baruchel, alongside Scott Speedman.
