"Sex and the City: The Movie" will not be making its world debut in the Big Apple, instead the film will premiere in London. For a series and movie that is so focused on New York City, it seems a bit odd that it would debut anywhere but NYC. The reasons behind having the premiere in London are financially motivated, and with the weakness of the US dollar, producers feel that London is more financially equipped to cope with the premiere.
The film's four stars - Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon - will all be at the London premiere.
'Sex and the City: The Movie' will have its world premiere in London - because of the weakness of the US dollar. The film will be shown for the first time on May 12 in Leicester Square, a full two weeks before its premiere stateside.
There are numerous fashion merchandising tie-ins with the film, and London's buying power is seen as a vital part of the success of the campaign. The US economy and dollar are in a slump, so the studio believes that London is the place to be.
New Line Cinemas, the film's makers, insists that the New York event will be just as important as the London one. Then why not show it in NYC first, if it's just as important?
